Our Week 7 Friday Night Feature is Homecoming for the Northside High School Band.

Homecoming at Northside is a big deal. While walking up to the stadium, I could hear how loud the band was. For those of you who do not know, I am a proud Grizzly Band Alumni but I love marching band so much. Which is why I do this social media group. Football in Fort Smith is a lot different then the rest of the area because Fort Smith is split into two 7A high schools, one private high school, and a charter school. So there is not as much of an area support feeling like there is in the other towns. Don’t get me wrong, people and businesses do support both Northside and Southside but its split in the town.

Well back to the band. The Northside Grizzly Band is made up of 243 10th through 12th graders. They are under the direction of Gordon Manley, Aaron Durham, and Gabby Chandler. They 2018 show is titled “Forecast.” The show features six selections which correspond to the days and weather during the week. This show is filled with a heavy hitting brass line that is dense.

During my time with the band that homecoming night. It was great to see that the band I was once apart of is still continuing strong. Another fun fact, it was my fellow classmates that organized and started the famous 3rd quarter group. If you do not know what I am talking about, check them out at the Northside Southside game this Friday, November 2 for the Battle of Rogers Avenue.
