Our Week 3 Friday Night Feature kept us in town with the Fort Smith Southside Maverick Band and Greenwood Bulldog Marching Band.
Friday, September 7, there was a strong chance for severe weather from the remains of Tropical Storm Gordon. Just as we arrived at the stadium, both the Southside and the Greenwood bands were heading inside due to nearby lightening. We were worried that the game might be cancelled but after 20 minutes both bands were back. The stadium was filled on both sides because this was a very big football game for both teams. Students were excited for the game and their team to win.
The Southside Band is led by Mr. Sean Carrier and is made up of about 250 members from 10th through 12th grade. The show they are presenting this year is titled, “Kings and Queens.” The Greenwood Band is led by Mr. Joel Sillavan and has a total of 145 members that range from 9th to 12th grade. This years show is titled, “Encaged.”
Both bands know of us and were very excited to see us. We talked with both band directors and explained what we hope to highlight their programs. Both halftime shows were great. Due to copyright, we did not record the Greenwood band’s show. But they will be preforming at all Greenwood home games, a few marching contests, and Region 8 Marching Assessment. We greatly enjoyed both shows at halftime. It was amazing to be on the field with the bands.
