We started our 2018 Friday Night Feature with the Hackett Hornet Marching Band and Mansfield Tiger Marching Band.

If you have never been to a small town football game then you are missing out. Let me just tell you that it is a family-like atmosphere. When we arrived, a local band was playing music, people were conversing with each other, and food was being cooked. Oh did the food smell so good! The whole town came out for this game to support their school and team. This game showed that Hackett is a very close community.

I first walked over to the Mansfield side of the field and met the Head Band Director Jordan Smith. The Mansfield Band is made up of 26 members that range from 9th-12th grade, two of which are on the football team. The members were extremely excited for the game. A saxophone player commented that he was the best part of the band. Of course his friends called him out on that quote. While I was over conversing with the Tiger Band, the Hornets marched into the stadium. The Hackett Hornet Band is instructed by Lucas Davis. The band is made up of 21 members that are in 9th-12th grade.

For the halftime entertainment, the Tiger Marching Band debuted their 2018 show titled “Music of the Beatles.” For their opener they played, “I Saw Her Standing There.” The Hackett Hornet Marching Band followed and also debuted their halftime show, “Queen.” They opened their show with “Under Pressure.” Both groups only preformed their opener but they did amazing jobs. We have posted both performances on our page so you can watch.

Though these high school bands are small, they are held to high standards and expectations. Both directors push their members to achieve excellence. If you get a chance to watch these fine band programs please do! The Mansfield band travels and preforms at every game, home and away. The Hackett and Mansfield Marching Bands will both be at future home and away games and Region 8 Marching Assessment in October.
